The Vetiver Network International has used conferences and workshops as an important means of furthering the dissemination of the Vetiver System, creating ideas and themes for future research and for the discussion and dissemination of the research results. These meetings take the form of international vetiver conferences held every 3-5 years, regional conferences, and national and local conferences.

TVNI publishes online the proceedings of conferences and workshops along with respective power point presentations.

Ethiopian Vetiver System Workshop - March 2009

This workshop was sponsored by Sida mand TVNI and organised by the Ethiopian Sustainable Land Use Forum (SLUF). Some 160 people participated from a wide range of agencies, government, NGO, and private sector. There was pretty good concencus of the value of the Vetiver System as was very nicely demonstrated by the Ethiopian presentations dealing with Soil and Water Conservation based on some 20 years experience with the vetiver grass technology. It is expected that VS will now be scaled up in Ethiopia and will be applied to other sectors apart from agriculture.

Lessons learned from the workshop could and should be applied widely in most countries in the tropics and semi-tropics that depend on rainfed agriculture.

Kenya Vetiver System Workshop - March 2009

This workshop was sponsored by TVNI and was organized by the Kenya Vetiver Network. The workshop was held at KARI, some 60 people participated. The power points shown in Ethiopia apply to Kenya. A summary of the workshop is at this link.

FIRST NATIONAL VETIVER WORKSHOP IN INDIA

This workshop was held in Kochi (Cochin) from February 21-23 2008 and was ably organized by the Indian Vetiver Network and the Vetiver Network International, with sponsorship from from Tata Tea Co Ltd (Calcutta),The Vetiver Network International, Golden Fries Limited, Coimbatore. and KDHP CO.(P) Ltd., Munnar-Kerala. The organizers acknowledge and thank the sponsors without whom the workshop would not have been possible.

Some 300 participants showed up for the inaugural session and there were about the same number at the workshop’s closing, a good indication of participant interest. Post workshop feedback indicates great interest in the Vetiver System and its wide application for solving many problems relating to soil and water conservation, slope stabilization, water quality improvement, and disaster mitigation.
